There are several good reasons to get trained in the field of laser hair removal. As a growing industry that brings in billions of dollars every year, there are a lot of career opportunities in laser hair removal if you have enough training. Schools exist all over the country, making it easy to study in one of your favorite cities, and many of them can have you trained and certified in as little as two weeks. Compared to other training programs, which can take several years to complete, those two weeks will certainly go by fast.
What Will You Learn?
During a typical laser hair removal program, students will learn everything from hair biology, laser physics, safety precautions, candidate criteria, and post treatment care to marketing their services. In addition to this foundation of theory, students will also receive hands on training which will help them become familiar with different lasers. Supervised experience also makes students more confident in their new abilities and more marketable in the field when their training is complete.
What are the Benefits?
Most students enter laser hair removal schools because they seem like a way to get on the fast track to a good career. In addition to being brief and thorough, many laser hair removal schools are also flexible. Since the course only takes two weeks to complete, many of them run all year long making it easy for students to make up classes that they missed because of emergencies or scheduling conflicts.
Depending on your experience and where you practice, a career in laser hair removal can yield a salary anywhere between $30,000 and $80,000 dollars. Obviously, the more skills you can offer, the higher your pay will be. Jobs include anything from being a licensed esthetician, a physician’s assistant, a nurse practitioner and a laser technician to an accountant or a sales manager.
Another reason why laser hair removal is a good career choice is that it is gaining popularity and there are no shortages as far as candidates are concerned. After all, most everyone has a little unwanted hair on their body and it is tempting to eliminate the need for shaving. As technology improves, laser hair removal procedures will probably become safer and easier too.
If you are worried about job competition after your training is complete, try to find a school that makes an effort to employment for their graduates. Even if they can’t guarantee that they will find you a job, it will definitely be nice to have another pair of eyes helping you look for one.
Infections from laser hair removal treatments are rare, but can occur if the patient has a history of herpes or if a bacterial infection develops from the superficial burn that can occur with the treatment. One of the side effects of laser hair removal are burns. While burns are not always part of the treatments, on very sensitive skin, major burning can occur. Because you are trying to get hair removed in such a sensitive area, I would look into all possible side effects. If you think you can stand any of them on your genitals for ever treatment (there are usually several), then maybe this is okay for you. But for most people, I would say leave the hair or find a different solution.
I think before you do anything, you need to talk to your doctor just to make sure. Because one of the side effects of this syndrome is excess body hair, the physical response to laser hair removal may not be as effective as with people without this syndrome. The hormonal response of hair growth will probably not be stopped by laser hair removal. However, this does not mean that you should not get it. As with most people, laser hair removal is not a permanent treatment. Often times it serves as a way to thin unwanted hair, to make hair management easier. If this would be enough for you, then this might be an effective way to make your life easier.
My wife's aunt is a dermatologist and had this done for free. She never would have had paid for it if it wasnt' for her aunt. But knowing what she knows now, my wife would have paid for it in a SECOND! The results were outstanding and permanent (3 years so far)
It works…it REALLY works. Keep in mind it will take AT LEAST two treatments, maybe even three or four depending on your hair, the area, and thickness.
Also, find a reputable dermatologist. There are very minimal risks involved, but lot of fly by night companies are doing these procedures. The risks are amplified if you go with someone that doesn’t know what they are doing. You can end up with scars and burns if you go with an amateur . You shouldn’t worry about this with a true MD. If it is an MD find out how long they have been doing it.
I don’t know how it works, but the laser only “zaps” dark colors. Non-caucasians (Latinas, blacks, or other dark skinned people) may have to go through more treatments. The laser will have to be turned down as to not burn the darker skin. Some very dark skinned individuals may not be able to have the procedure done.
The $750 – $1000 sounds inline with what you should pay for TOTAL removal…ie multiple sessions. That sounds pretty high for a single session.
You should expect lots of red splotches and some light to moderate swelling in the treated areas for a few days. So if you have your upper lip done people at work will know you had something done the next day. It look kind of like a fresh waxing times two or three. I don’t think it is anything to be ashamed of. But if you are self-conscious about this you may want to have the procedure done on a Thurs or Friday and take a day or two off of work.
It can be a little painful in some places. Not severe, but you will feel a little something.
Hope that helps!
There's is a great webiste that has some good tips and techniques that you can use on your hair. There are also some third party options that are reliable. The site is http://www.hairfinish.com
It is not like that laser hair removal work for the darker skinned people..It is quite suitable for all the people and it is quite easy but cost is high when compared to other treatment..It is not suitable for the people who have sensitive skin…It is also simple and safety way to remove the hair…
I am getting it done also for the first time next Tuesday – and they told me to shave. They even said if I don't – that's fine, they'll shave it for me!!
Sounds gross – but I guess that means that it should be smooth. It isn't the actual hair that the lazer zaps – its the pigment of the hair that it detects.
Anyway – hope it works for you!
Laser hair removal has actually been surpassed by IPL hair removal (in Australia – that is). As a Laser Aesthetician I have used and experienced both. I have dark hair and olive skin. I did have some hypopigmentation from the Ruby Laser but it resolved. I have had no side effects from the IPL and all my hair has gone…. legs, underarms, bikini. It's wonderful, not having to worry about it anymore. Both laser and IPL are attracted to the melanin in the hair and only goes as deep as the hair root.It is not invasive at all and feels like a slight rubber band flicking the skin. It doesn't cause cancer !!!! Either way it will take several treatments to be hair free.
when i went to get laser hair removal on my underarms, they told me that i had to have shaven the area within twenty four hours of the procedure. where ever you're getting it done you should ask if they think the laser hair removal will work on the short thin hairs you have under your sideburns because i heard it doesn't work on hair that's almost like peach fuzz.
